SCAM T.P.E. S.r.l. realizes its products through high quality components and the most advanced technologies of the sector thanks also to SPIG HOLDING SpA, of which SCAM T.P.E. S.r.l. is subsidiary. SCAM T.P.E. S.r.l. has the opportunity to use a computer advanced calculation program for the planning of cooling towers and its components, among the most advanced in the world.

This growing dynamism and the improving of its products led SCAM T.P.E. S.r.l. towards the development of efficient and innovative technologies to be applied on cooling towers, whereof  we are describing here below some details.  

 

COOLING TOWERS SERIES TAS-TASF 

Each SCAM T.P.E. S.r.l. cooling tower is characterized by a bearing internal structure and a lateral buffering. SCAM T.P.E. S.r.l. developed the TAS new series of cooling towers to offer its customers, that present fiberglass walls in insulated sandwich panels of 22 mm. thickness, able to improve the tower acoustical treatment in addition to ensuring an excellent aesthetic effect and a lasting resistance to the  corrosion of external agents over the time. On request the TAS towers can be equipped with big removable doors  in order to effect an ordinary and extraordinary internal maintenance of the tower with better ease (easy replacement even of the filling). 

A latest technical innovation is SCAM/DURABONDHYB protective cycle, that is applied (for TASF series) as an alternative to SCAMBOND/HYB or to hot galvanizing process, on the internal surfaces of the water collecting basin of the cooling tower and it consists in a coating of three superimposed layers of fiberglass deposited and thermo-hardened on the processed and sandblasted sheet, which assures an excellent corrosion resistance over the time, while maintaining the robustness of the steel support structure.

The continuous improvement process of SCAM T.P.E. S.r.l. cooling towers led to the development of SCAM/SHIELD internal plastic coating, a thermoplastic sheet which covers the internal walls of the tower body, wrapping the dispersion elements and ensuring multiple benefits, such as:

  • - reduction of “by-pass on wall” phenomenon of the spray water with the consequent increase in the cooling efficiency of the tower;
  • - the elimination of possible water leaks from the tower walls;
  • - the complete isolation of the hydraulic circuit from the contact with the galvanized steel structure.

In particular, the latter advantage along with the possibility to foresee the DURABOND/HYB protective cycle in basin (three layers of fiberglass to protect the metallic basin), make our towers comparable to the fiberglass ones, but we preserve the undeniable advantage of a robust and durable steel support structure.

 

WATER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM

Inside the upper section of a SCAM T.P.E. S.r.l. cooling tower there is the distribution system, made up of a main pipe connected to secondary pipes on which there are the high efficiency dynamic spray rotating nozzles in polypropylene, able to form a square section rose in order to make uniform the spraying of the underlying filling.

This innovative distribution nozzle has been planned to achieve the main following goals:

  • - High and efficient water square distribution (approximately 1 m2) in order to avoid any possible overlapping of the flows of the nozzles upon the same dispersion surface;
  • - Hydraulic charge evenly distributed in order to avoid any air bypass where the charge is more reduced and the “by-pass on walls” water phenomenon;
  • - Reduced distance between nozzles and filling in order to reduce pumping elevation;
  • - Low operating pressure in order to reduce pumping elevation (0,3 - 0,5 barg) with significant energy savings of the water pumping;
  • - Self-cleaning surface through the dedicated hydraulic propeller;
  • - Anti clogging of the polypropylene nozzle even in case of high temperature dirty water. The nozzle is supplied complete with adapter easily removable in order to simplify maintenance operations.

 

SCAM T.P.E. S.r.l. ELECTRIC ENGINES

In its towers realization SCAM T.P.E. S.r.l. married the fan group direct transmission system (engine-fan), by avoiding the use of belts and pulleys that usually are characterized by a recurrent high frequency in the replacement due to wear, besides a noise high level. The fans are directly coupled on the drive shaft by means of a clamping hub;  this expedient minimizes the energy consumptions and the maintenance operations with advantageous cost savings.

The SCAM T.P.E. S.r.l. engines are set inside the tower diffuser, by reducing in this way the acoustic emissions, but they are exposed to a moisture saturated atmosphere. In order to counteract this problem, SCAM T.P.E. S.r.l. has issued, over the years, a dedicated “SCAM/SPMS” specification and, on this basis, it adapts all the engines supplied on direct transmission towers. The interventions are part of the company know-how and they make the engine reliable, safe and subject to a very low maintenance, in addition to the following improvements:

  • - protection improvement with tropicalization;
  • - no maintenance for the first 5 years (“for life” lubricated bearings) on the engine-fan group;
  • - seals improvement;
  • - seal of some exposed parts with special materials;
  • - bolts replacement;
  • - terminal board elimination;
  • - best cycle of painting;
  • - replacement of bearings with high quality 2RSC3, watertight, oiled “for life” type;
  • - utilization of anti-condensation heaters;
  • - on discretion, elimination of the cooling fan.

 

FAN UNIT

For its cooling towers SCAM T.P.E. S.r.l. offers induced draft axial fan groups characterized by solutions with high efficiency multi-blades impeller, of “NACA” aeronautic derivation, with asymmetrical profile, balanced  with “PALA MASTER” system. The SCAM T.P.E. S.r.l. solid experience in the air flow and sound study of the impellers made  possible the engineering and the utilization, sometimes with strict sound limits, of a new type of axial fan SCAMAIR/SX. This impeller has blades with fiberglass “elephant ear” profile and galvanized steel hub, able to properly operate with very low acoustic emissions.

The fan group energy consumption optimization is guaranteed by the impeller choice and by the use of the truncated pyramid diffuser, which channels the air going out of the tower and reduces the air load losses, by determining a lower electric consumption of the engine.

 

SPECIAL EXECUTIONS

Each SCAM T.P.E. S.r.l. proposal is adapted to the customer requirements, that are deeply studied starting from the project first steps and then developed by our technical and commercial offices in order to better meet any project requirement regarding cooling towers. Therefore are available the following variants for the series TAX, TAZ, TAW, TAY, towers with structure and paneling completely in stainless steel (304 or 316 according to the requirements) where the project characteristics make it necessary the utilization of  corrosion highly resistant metallurgies.
